Nation held to Ransom: Quota strikes Again

"Me too, Me too. I also want a share of the pie Mommy. And make sure its the Lion's Share."

More dirtier scenes have been seen in the past regarding the Quota. The latest being downplayed in Rajasthan and spreading to the nearby States. The Gujjars have taken to streets and whatever roads they can find a place in the Scheduled Tribe category. And this is not it, the Meena Community took to the streets fearing decrease in their share of the ST quota. Pathetic... All Pathetic Suckers...

57 years have passed after India became a Republic. The quota system should have been abolished 7 years ago. But the ruling NDA regime did not have the balls to do so. And if that was not enough, this year a moron in the name of Arjun Singh started a fire on 27 percent reservation for OBC's. And guess who were the lone fighters revolting against the order. Our own prestigious AIIMS students who took to the streets protesting the OBC quota. In a country where reservations count upto 50% of the seats or posts in colleges, organizations, what else can be expected.

Needless to say, the protesting doctors were caned, sprayed with water canons, beaten up like hell... Did you listen? The only saviour was in form of a Supreme Court order which asked the Government to disclose on what basis the quota should be introduced...

And now, last month's Gujjar agitation which turned violent. All due to the quota row. Hundreds of Gujjars started the agitations, taking the district administration by surprise. Things got pretty ugly soon and police had to resort to lathi charge. The mob got even violent, attacked and dragged policemen. Seeing this kind of treatment to their comrades, the police opened fire to disperse the mob. During this entire scuffle an equal number of Gujjars and police personnel died.

As if this was not enough, some politician went ahead saying the police firing on the Gujjars was like another Jalianwala Bagh massacre. How dare he compare this with the massacre which is so tormenting in Indian history. First the people in the Jalainwala Bagh were not armed and were for a peaceful meeting. Secondly, the Britishers fired upon them.

If you look at this scenario, the Gujjars were armed and violent. They were not for any peaceful meeting. The death of policemen clearly states it. And the police fired to disperse the mob. Had it been a massacre, not a single Gujjar would have been alive there.

Looking at the whole set of events from last month, I would say that these people have stooped so low, politicians and civilians alike that they do not give a damn to others. When I read in the newspapers today that the Gujjars have called off their stir, I was a bit relieved. But when my eyes saw the lines in the article saying that the Gujjars were happy as though they had won a war, I was pained further. What do they know about war? And why it is fought? For some pathetic selfish reasons... And even the greatest of the Dictators would just laugh at this till he falls off... I am sure, coz I would have if I was one.

What has happened to my India? What has happened to the people? Have they not understood not in 100 or 200 years, but over a millenia... that communal harmony would only let us prosper. And that trifile division over filthy things like quota would only worsen the community further.

Today I am proud to say I belong to a high class family and have come all the way without some quota. I am a man by my own means and not that the quota made me...

Nice to read your candid expressions and ...

I would like to throw some food for thought..
"Meenas" are among prosperous community in rajasthan and they were mistakely inculded in ST List in 50s.

why should stop reservation? The problem is that generations after genarations same family gets advantage of reservation. We shud
disallow the reservation benfits to same family once one of theri generations has taken benefit, thereby ensuring newer pools coming in to take benefits of Reservation. This is the only solution to bring tribals and economically disadvantaged to get "Govrnment" jobs.

Moreover, All so called High castes people are any ways sedning their kids to join new economy companies and increasingly unaffected by reservation.

People are making so much hue and cry about OBC reservation while no body talks about keeping SC and STs out of reservation who are in creamy layer.

10 years back we decided that we will spend 6% of GDP on education but year after year we forget about spending and infusing more money to education which is key to economic upliftment.....

Yes Anshu, your views are right. While I am not against reservation in general, I am surely against the one based on caste, religion, minority status.

We must understand, while we cannot give undue benefit to a certain class of people, we must try and give the needy a chance to grow.

A lot of the SC/ST people now belong to economically sound families, so there is no need to give them the quota. I quote an instance where the son of a doctor went for MBBS through quota, while he had secured a good position to get that seat. Quota in this case just hijacked a seat.

I advocate reservations for economically backward families, who lie below the poverty line, and that too in form of monetary help or concessions. This is since they need it badly.

The youth of this country should realize that the quota system is not a solution. Today almost 50% has gone in for reservation. Tomorrow, some other community would call for reservation. Can we provide them? If yes, then what the general public would get?
