Mt Washington Trip
As the day turned, I needed to get out, get going. Somewhere for the long weekend. All I had in front of me is the uncertain plans of friends, and the unpredictability of self. Thankfully none deceived :)
So here I start once again on the path of uncertainty and unpredictability. Boarding the 1530 hrs bus to Boston, to catch up with Sandy. All through the trip tried hands at C# within Mac OS X. Somehow the bus reached earlier than expected, in fact a whole hour earlier. Dazed and amazed I got up to meet with Sandy and Hetal, another friend. Roamed the streets of Boston, with slight downpour keeping us on our toes.
Day after: Saturday. Fun filled. Destination: Boston again. Having been a long timer in Boston was the guide for Sandy. South Station, subway, Faneuil Hall, Quincy Market, Boston Harbor. The list might be short, the streets aren't. Boston boasts one of the beautifully planned streets with the major roads running underground leaving the streets to the people. Ain't it wonderful. All the place to walk around. Our city planners should dump NYC and study Boston.
Another uncertain moment. Plans for Mt. Washington, New Hampshire. A 200 mile ride. Sunday. Party all night before the trip, with dumb charades. I was stuck with Aparichit, and Ashiqui... the later Sandy took long time to guess, even after umpteen hints at myself... ;) Fun filled we settle for rest for the long trip. And yeah we got to return too.
Sunday: Destination - Mt. Washington. Race between two cars, on I-95. Sandy trying his level best to take pictures of the highway. With fall setting in, colors changing - the view was really beautiful. Drive through the Kancamagus highway really scenic. Reaching the foothills, we bid bye to the sunny lands, to run into one of the roughest weathers. With a windspeed of 67 mph and treacherous 34 F, things start falling into place. As the car rolled on the 8 mile highway, visibility slowly reduced to almost zero. At the summit, it was freezing. Weather here changes that often, from sunny at the foothills to freezing rain at the summit.
Braving the inclement weather, we made our way to the highest point of the observatory. Weathermen study the weather and predict storms at this observatory. Had a look at the old techniques used by man to stay put at such heights. Driving down was the toughest part. Had some good Indian spicy food on the way back, with antakshari all the way between two cars over phone. Ever tried that.
Hate it when a fun filled weekend almost comes to an end. Monday: have to travel back to Danbury, to start yet another boring week. With memories, new friends, and a hope to meet again. It’s the hope and missing someone that keeps you on toes. To wait for the day... :)
