Journey to Danbury...
I have safely reached Danbury. Not mentioning the unfortunate incident at Bhubaneswar and the high paced drama at Delhi airport. Well mentioning it, my flight from BBI to DEL was delayed by 1 hour and 15 minutes and I reached DEL domestic at 2240 hrs. At 2300 hrs I asked for an airport transfer while my flight was at 0025 hrs. The airport transfer guy told me to take a cab as the next shuttle was scheduled for 2320 hrs and it took about 30 minutes for the shuttle to reach international.
So, I had to take a cab to the international terminal. The cab came at exactly 2325 hrs and the driver I remember told me it takes like 30 minutes to reach the international terminal. I gave up hope and told him to go as fast as he could. Bingo, he was superman in disguise for I reached the terminal in 15 minutes. I want to forget the drive, coz it reminds me more of my kind of driving. Thanking the cabbie I had to wait like 10 minutes to get into the terminal. So there was like 40 minutes for the flight to take off and I still had to check in, and Air India had started closing in the counters. Again thinking of giving up, when an aunty called me over another counter for check in (She was quite helpful and was an aunty J). So I get the boarding pass and rush for immigration. While people were waiting in the Diplomats and First class line, I was called over by an uncle for immigration (dunno what was happening but it was really great). I watched the people in the other lines staring at me while I was running towards check in with a grin.
At check in too I was pulled out of a longer line and sent to a line with just one guy waiting. So third time lucky Santy thinks of calling it a day. Rushes to gate and finally boards the aircraft. Flight doesn’t budge even after 0025 hrs. People start asking, aunties on board say they were waiting for one guest. Try thinking who the guest was.
Me, sitting on my seat. Finally they realize their folly and the craft takes off at 0115 hrs (full 50 minutes late). Well am on the better side of not meeting famous personalities onboard flights as few of my friends do, but I sure met an elderly couple who were travelling for a holiday in the states. The oldie saved for his woman and was taking her on the vacation (how lovely and romantic). This has inspired me (am gonna definitely take my future wifey on a vacation, when I am old ). Well flight wasn’t interesting but wasn’t that boring thanks to the couple.
My immigration at JFK was really amazing. The first thing the immigration officer asks me is when did I marry (no clue, was something written on my face and then he pointed at my finger – religious symbol, that’s what I said. How great would it have been if I was really married…). All through the 2 minute process, we talked about the institution of marriage, and how I would be able to bring in my wife (if I was married). Well all ended with a PJ (as always) ‘Marriage is the only institution where a man loses his bachelors and a woman gets her masters.’
So safe and sound at Danbury and almost enjoying.
