Long Weekend at Rhode Island...

My plans for the long weekend were still not set. Even Friday morning I wasn't sure if I was really going somewhere. Not until noon did I think of traveling to Boston, then by evening it changed to Newport. Till the dead of night I was glued to my laptop for destinations. Good representation of DESTINATION UNKNOWN.

Morning wasn't better either. The only difference was that Sandeep was expecting me to come. Where? Neither of us yet knew. So I start with a grin and with a thought to free myself from the wonders of the world. Destination Stamford. Probably the busiest station in Connecticut. I had to change trains at South Norwalk, somehow I missed the directions from the crew and still was sitting at my seat. Only when I found the entire train empty that I moved, asked an elderly gentleman if the train was going to Stamford. He just said 'The other line' and dozed off, pretty indifferent to his surroundings. So there I move to the other train, luckily it didn’t leave without me.

Destination Stamford. Great station. I always thought Bridgeport was bigger. Well smart guy stands in the line and asks for Amtrak ticket. Lady sends him to the end of the counter for tickets. :) Well the ticket wasn’t anything less than a boarding pass. Luckily my Storm2 had arrived a few days back, so started updating myself on Twitter.

From meeting thugs (imagine meeting one there) to discussing with ladies about Amtrak, about where I come from, the land of Kamasutra, Mahabharata, Ramayana - I finally land up in Providence, Rhode Island. Out I come of the station to find Sandeep lost in the city. And the first thing we do was to go to a Indian restaurant and have biryani and kababs... ;) Moving to the beach, spent time hiking by the shore line watching the great villas and mansions. Time flew by fast as we just managed to get inside the car before the rain storm hit us. Navigating in the heavy downpour with just an iPhone with 20% battery and a BlackBerry Storm2 almost dead was a real challenge. Several goof ups and the switching of both the phones only made it worse. Still managed to find a gas station and a Walmart to buy a GPS, we hurried back to Norwood to have dinner at P F Chang and barely managed to get into the theater to watch Prince of Persia. The night ended with me and Sandeep celebrating his birthday over Diet Coke and Saun Papdi... ;)

Next day was a disaster, for we couldn't figure where to go. And the end result, went to another set of beaches... Fun all along the beach, but wrong attire. Its really cold in the Atlantic. Phew... The day ended with a Mexican dinner and Iron Man 2. Come Monday and it was time to go back. With shopping at Premium Outlets and a race to the Providence station to get on-board an Amtrak, I was lucky to take the last reservation :) Back at Danbury in 3 hours and trying to catch up on all the lost sleep. ;)
