Trip to New Jersey & New York...
Friday evening wasn't so bad. For I had to travel to Stamford to pick up the ride with Sandeep and Saptanshu to Bhabani's place in New Jersey. Initial planning was to travel from Danbury to Stamford and then to Trenton where Bhabani would pick me up. However to save time and money the gang re-planned to pick me up at Stamford. That's when I missed the train. By a minute. I was at a signal and watched the train go by. And there began the uncertainty. From thinking about traveling to Stamford by taxi, to waiting for the night train, and pretty much re-planning; finally Sandeep and Saptanshu come over to pick me up following a 30 minute detour.
Well there I was at McDonald's with three premium sandwiches with bacon unbeknown to us. Finally we managed the supper and set out towards New Jersey, a 160 minute drive. The drive was fun and after a long tiring wait to reach the destination, we finally saw the end of the roads. Mr Bhabani, who was away at a play had made arrangements for our boarding. And we watch 'I Am Legend' and 'Chronicles of Riddick' before settling down in our body bags... :P
Next day, felt like not getting up. Still these guys almost dragged me to the car to set out for Status of Liberty, with me juggling between offshore calls, family calls and something else. With Bhabani's flawless direction sense we reached the port just in time to sail to the Liberty Island. Best of lunch which gave me a hard time later and pretty good time atop the statue... That's how the afternoon went. The entire time was captured in frames to be embossed in the minds forever.
Next stop: New York. Undergoing a series of train changes to Grand Central NYC was tiring but exciting. A couple of goof ups here and there and I was really becoming the Joker of the Day. A walk around Wall Street, Ground Zero, Trinity Church, NYSE, the famous Bull... A swift visit to the Empire State building, going up in high speed elevators that went 10 floors per second, managing to catch a glimpse of the city from the top of the building in the crowd. That really made the evening.
Final Stop of the Day: Madame Tussauds... Oh that was wonderful. From the Rock to Shakira, 007 to Paris, Clooney to Madonna, Amitji to Lady Diana... All were simply awesome. A few censored photographs that would be locked in for life. A respectful bow to Bapu, stout meeting with Bonaparte, disciplining Obama... will live in my memories for time immemorial. These are places which make you come again and again. Wish never came out of it.
Now a walk back to the Times Square with glittering lights, INFY dashing across NASDAQ. And then we move in to the TGI Fridays for our dinner; the famous mashed potatoes. :) The journey begins back home still uncertain of the trains to board. Back to our body bags for a new day... to travel back to our places.
